In February of 1952, a 24-year-old clothing salesman named Arnold Schuster,
an amateur sleuth, spotted a much wanted bank robber in the subway.
He followed the robber and notified the police,
like any good citizen would. After the arrest of the robber, Willie "The Actor" Sutton,
Schuster appeared on national television, telling how he helped authorities nab the robber.
In the early 1950s, the television was a new and expensive plaything.
Among the thousands watching the broadcast that day,
was a man that did not like Schuster's attitude and was about to decide his fate.
Mobster Albert Anastasia was the one who didn't like what Schuster did.
Known for his erratic and violent behavior, Anastasia exploded when he saw Schuster on television.
"I can't stand squealers!" he yelled. "Hit that guy!"
On March 9, 1952, Schuster was found dead on the street where he lived.
He had been shot four times, twice in the groin and once in each eye.
